can one tell the final kb size before saving?

I was wondering if there was a way to tell what the final size (kb) will be before actually saving the file? (this way one can change the target size accordingly

Hello,

When you save your image to LEAD JPEG2000 format using Photoshop, you can set the size of the result JPEG2000 file by using the "Target size" option in the "LEAD JPEG 2000 (J2K) Options" dialog.

Thanks,

Hi

thanks for your help Maen.
I was aware of the ability to 'set' the size manually. My apologies for not being clear enough. I did not want to know how to set the size I wanted to know what the size is going to be by default according to its other settings if it's not set so that I can then use that measurement to set it differently if needed.

or perhaps I should ask it differently. I
Consider the following example: If a lossy setting is checked, by default the comp ratio is '25'. My original file is 1472KB. For this file the target size is, "849346" What is that? If I save the file as such the result is 830KB.
My question is How do I tell this '830KB' size ahead of time before saving it?

And if I may add another question On what is the defualt 'comp ratio' of 25 based on?

thanks again

Hello,

The compression ratio is not based on the original file size. It is based on the uncompressed image size in memory (measured in bytes).
The image size in memory is roughly equal to (pixel width * pixel height * bits per pixel / 8)

The actual size saved in bytes might differ a little, but this is usually less than 1% difference.

So if the image in memory is 2.5 Megabytes, and saving with a compression ratio of 25, the target file size will be around 0.1 megabytes.

Thanks,
Maen Badwan
