Newbie end-user wants to know how to fiddle with installed codecs...

Hi all

Soz if this is a daft question but I got here as a result of a redirection from AVSmedia (I use their video converter program), and I don't know much about Codecs ...

So: my 4x Qs are these:

1. is there a tool (already in Windows?) that you can run (or go download, and then run) that will tell you precisely what codecs you have installed?

2. if you have more than one codec that can decode one particular video stream, where and how can you determine WHICH one is used in preference?

3. how can you remove (or switch off?) a codec already installed, and if needed, how do you put it back into the OS again?

4. alternatively: can you disable them 'in-situ' (ie is there a 'control panel' somewhere?) without actually removing them physically from Window's guts?

Soz if these are dumb questions, but we all have to learn somehow! And I'm #trying# to get Premiere Pro up and running reliably ..

Thanks!

John
