MPEG4 encoder doesn't save settings

synedra 12-02-2008, 8:56
Hi all!

Our Software uses the LEAD MPEG4 Encoder for encoding Live-Capturestreams. The
problem is that the configuration dialog doesn't save the adjusted settings. It
even has no effect - the bitrate of the files is not affected by the settings.

I've found out that the codec tries to write its settings to the Registry path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LEAD Technologies, Inc.\DShow\Codecs\LENCMPEG4_2
but even there is no change of values.

We also tried it with different applications like AMcap - the free
capturing-Tool from Microsoft - the same phenomenon as with our software.

Thanks very much for your help!

Christoph,

I tested using our LEAD MPEG4 Encoder (2.0) and when I changed the bitrate, the changes were saved and showed the new values when I re-opened the settings dialog again.

Also, when I converted one sample video with different bitrate values, the result videos had different bitrates which matched the settings.

The version of the encoder's DLL (which is LENCMPG42.dll) that I tested with is 1.0.0.126. Is that what you have?

Also, can you send me a sample video that I can test with? If yes, please post it here. If you don't want to post here, you could send it to support@leadtools.com and mention this forum post in the email. In both cases, make sure to pack the video in a ZIP or RAR file before posting or sending it.

Hi Yasir!

Thx for your reply.
I'm sorry I can't give you a videofile, due to we're livecapturing videostreams of devices like videocameras. We're using the the dll-version 1.0.0.102 - is it possible to get the newer version ?  Which software did you use for testing this ? Thanks for your help

Christoph,

I used the convert demo of our Multimedia toolkit v16 when testing.

If you have purchase the codec alone, then you can download the latest build of our MPEG4 Encoder from the download page at our codecs site:
http://leadcodecs.com/Download/eval.htm

If you have purchased it as part of our toolkit, then please send your serial number to support@leadtools.com so I can send you the download instructions.

Hi Yasir!

We've purchased the standalone edition of the MPEG4-codec and already downloaded the actual version from the download-page. This one has the dll-version 1.0.0.102.
Where does the codec store its actual settings ? As i posted above, there are no changes in the registry-keys. If the codec works properly we're looking forward to use it as the standard implemention in our software that runs in several hospitals in europe.

We'd appreciate a fast solution that enables us to use the codec with our software - thanks very much for your help.

regards
Christoph

Christoph,

There is no documented registry key I know of, but if you want to modify the changes programmatically, the encoder has a COM interface you can access. If you want the documentation for that interface, let me know.

Hi Yasir!

Please send us the documentation of the COM-interface to tech@synedra.com.
Is there a reason why it is not possible to change the codec-configuration by editing the settings with the graphedit filtermanager ? Thanks for help

Christoph

I apologize for any confusion, but if you are planning on accessing and using our codecs within an applicatoin you are writing, you must at least purchase the Multimedia SDK even if you are going to do all of the DirectShow programming yourself.  For more details on this and how the licensing model works, please contact our sales department.

When you install the SDK, you can find documentation for the MPEG4 encoder (and all other filters) in the Filters help file.

Please send an email to support@leadtools.com with the following information so that I can send you the latest build of the MPEG4 encoder because the installers on www.leadcodecs.com have not been updated at this time.  For verification purposes, I need you to include the following information:

1. The company you work for
2. The LEADTOOLS serial number(s) you own (if you are evaluating, just say so)
3. The name(s) of the developer(s) using the serial number
4. A link to this forum post
