Codec H.264 - where are custom settings?
Reply Quote
Hi,
I got an H.264 encoder and decoder (evaluation), I installed them but I cannot find Custom encoding / decoding Settings. How to get this feature as it is impossible to adjust encoding/decoding for a stream records and play, to see how it works. Please help!

The codec doesn't work as a stand alone installation.

To be able to evaluate the codec you need to have an End user program that can use the codec for file conversion and display the codec property page.

Our affiliate company M²Convert has a converter program (M²Convert professional) that can use the codec for video encoding. You get the free evaluation version of the software using the following link:

http://m2solutionsinc.com/download-eval.htm

Once you install the converter program the codec will be displayed in its file format list and you can use it form there.

Excuse me??....
Your codec is able to be seen from the software used by me to record TV programs/video on-line and recordings are made perfectly - but unfortunately there is a lack of custom settings for your codec.
Anyway, I read that your codec can be used in stream recordings... converter program (M²Convert professional) is not for this purpose. So my second question - why did you mean saying that y/H.264 can be used for real time compression?
-----
"Inter-frame video compression. Achieve very high compression and generate very all file sizes. Suitable for real time compression and
video storage.
Compression: low, medium, high, very high.
Speed: very slow, slow, medium."

If the program you're using allows for the display of compressors property pages, it should be able to display our codec settings. The will look like the attached JPEG image.

About real-time compression, this means the ability to keep up with capture hardware at a reasonable frame rate on a sufficiently powerful PC.

This means you need to choose the settings that cause 'medium' speed, not 'very slow', or else so many frames would be dropped during recording that the resulting video would be of poor quality.

That's a problem with your codec H.264!

It CAN be installed to the Windows system, it CAN be seen by the software of TV card, it CAN be used then to record TVmovies at a real time compression, but it CANNOT make possible to do any own customer settings.
That's why I asked for it as I could'nt find this feature. My TV card Leadtec TV Expert2000 is not able to display ONLY your codec settings - settings of other codecs are displayed properly so this is a problem of your codec H.264, not my software.
I'm rather disappointed.
Best regards, Janeo

If you try to use any other software that can use encoders and has the ability to edit the property page of our encoder. The settings for the codec are saved in the registry and most likely it will affect the settings when you are using your TV card.

If you have no such application, try the evaluation software that I mentioned in my previous post.
