Which MPEG Codec is suitable for me ?
Reply Quote

Hi Support,

I am using evaluation version of 6 LEAD MPEG Video codecs for MPEG Capture.

I want to capture video using ltmm_n.dll with target format "MPEG1 System" and "MPEG2 Program".  Further, I want to create VCD from these files.  The captured video should play in Windows Media Player on any other machine.

Please guide me which LEAD MPEG codec is suitable for my above needs ?

Our LEAD MPEG-2 Video Codec support to both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 output stream.

In both cases, you will need a decoder to be installed before you will be able to play them on Windows Media Player (WMP).

Generally, the MPEG-1 compression format should play on almost any PC, because most Windows computers already have a decoder for that format. However, MPEG-2 files might require you to install a decoder.

1)  I am little confused regarding LEAD Tools MPEG Codecs.  There are multiple MPEG Codecs available on LEAD Tools site.  I dont know which exactly should I use.  Will you please send me a download link for the same you recommented in your previous reply ?

2)  Another thing is the name of mpeg codec you suggested "LEAD MPEG-2 Video Codec" is name of executable setup file or it is friendly name of codec ?  I installed all your mpeg codecs on my machine and run the multimedia capture demo application that you ship with your tool kit.  It donot list codec named above.

3)  Whenever I try to use any lead mpeg codec, it displays a message saying I have selected incorrect capture size.  Screen shot is attached herewith.  I do not want this message in any case.  What should I do to supress this message ?

4)  On some machines, using any lead tools mpeg codec trial version, capturing donot start at all.  No any error occur but capturing donot start.  Progress event of ltmmCapture fire properly but frames captured is always zero.  How should I work with this issue ?

1. You can download the LEAD MPEG-2 Video Codec using this link:

http://www.leadtools.com/rd/codecs/MPEG2Encoder.exe

However, if you have installed our Multimedia toolkit already, then this codec should already been installed on your computer in the Eval mode. The encoder is sold as part of our DVD module. If you purchase another product, then this codec is available as add-on.

For more details on different multimedia products and their components, please see this web page:

http://www.leadtools.com/SDK/Multimedia/pcmpchtMM.htm

2. If you try any of our capture demos, you should be able to save files using this encoder by opening the Options menu, then select Video Compressor > LEAD MPEG2 Encoder (3.0).

3. The 352x240 resolution at 29.97 fps is for NTSC, while 352x288 at 25 fps is for PAL. It seems that you are trying to create an NTSC VCD file while the source is 352x288 pixels.

You can avoid this message in one of 3 ways:

- As the message suggested, add the LEAD Video Resize Filter (2.0) to resize the file to NTSC standard.

- Or you can select to save as PAL, that if PAL output is acceptable for you.

- If you are sure you want to ignore the incorrect size then you can disable this warning. The LEAD MPEG2 Encoder (3.0) options dialog contains a check box to "Ignore Input Aspect Ratio".

4. When the problem happens, what is the event that gets triggered and what are the parameter values that get passed to it?
