Lines not shown in PDF

Good Day, I'm using LEADTOOLS ePrint5 Workstation. In some cases when I save the page from the Workstation environment to PDF some of the lines do not show in the PDF when viewed (in Acrobat Viewer 8). Please find attached a zipped file containing screenshots of before and after the pdf creation, as well as the final pdf file. Please help.

Could you supply the original image so that I can use it for testing purposes here? If you do not want to post it here, you can email it to support@leadtools.com as well with a link to this post.

Normally I would print from a application (TurboCAD) straight to LeadTools Workstation. If I would then save from the Workstation environment to any of the supported Workstation formats, the picture would change. Thus it is difficult to supply the original image, since it can only be produced from the TurboCAD application. Perhaps you can suggest another way of supplying the original image?

I did however find the same problem with the attached pdf file. When the pdf is viewed in Acrobat Reader 8, the drawing dimensions show in blue. When printed from Acrobat to Workstation, the dimensions still look as expected. When then saved to pdf again from Workstation and the output viewed in Acrobat, the dimension lines are longer visible. Please see if you also find the problem with the attaced 'sample.pdf'. Many thanks.

Does TurboCAD come with a free evaluation that I can download?  If so, please send the link.

I cannot reproduce the problem with sample.pdf that you sent me.  It looks almost identical except that a couple of lines look a little fatter, but that's probably just due to the fact that it is getting rasterized in the process.  The same thing occured in both the regular ePrint printer and the Workstation.  Either that or it's a lot more subtle in the PDF and I'm just missing it.  Exactly where is the problem in the PDF?

What DPI are you printing the PDF at from Adobe Acrobat 8?  I was using 150.

I found different results depending on the DPI setting. When printing from Acrobat Reader 8 with the following settings I found:

96dpi - dimension lines ok,
150 dpi - dimension lines ok,
300 dpi - dimension lines missing,
600 dpi - dimension lines missing.

I've attached a zip file with the original and output pdfs.

Also included is a sample TurboCAD drawing, with the output for different dpi settings. In this case the dpi setting made no difference - the lines were allways absent.

(You can download a free trail of TurboCAD from their website http://www.turbocad.com. You will need to get TurboCAD Pro 15.)

Thanks again for your help. I use this software daily to send pdf versions of drawings to my clients.

I have reproduced this problem and need to report it to our engineering department.  However, in order to do that I need you to send an email to support@leadtools.com including the following information:

1. The company you work for
2. The LEADTOOLS serial number(s) you own (if you are evaluating, just say so)
3. The name(s) of the developer(s) using the serial number
4. A link to this forum post

I'm not completely sure, but I believe the problem is that our Document PDF writing doesn't support hatch fills like this object.  I'm able to save to image formats such as JPG and Image PDF (rather than the Document PDF) but the hatch fill doesn't look exactly like it does in the CAD drawing.  Our engineering department will be able to determine exactly what the problem is, but it might just be a limitation of the software rather than a bug.

I've reported the hatch fill problem with saving to Document PDFs with the incident number 7080IDT.  This incident will be reviewed and prioritized by our engineering department.  I will contact you when I get more information from our developers.  For now, you will need to save as an Image PDF rather than a Document PDF as a workaround.  Keep in mind that the hatch fill will be raster, not vector, so it will have a different behavior when zooming in and zooming out, but it is the same hatch fill.

If you have any more questions, please let me know.

As for the PDF printing problem, this doesn't appear to be the same issue.  In fact, when I tested this on my end, I could not get the same results as you.  The results for printing at 96 DPI was similar to yours, but when I printed at 600 DPI, the image looked perfectly fine, I did not notice any missing lines (PDF is attached).

The developers working on your incident, 7080IDT, have let me know that this is just a limitation of the driver.

However, since it might be possible to do add this functionality, they have changed this to a feature request.  If chosen for implementation, most feature requests are added at major releases (6, 7 etc.).

If this is an urgent need, please contact our custom development department by visiting http://www.leadtools.com/devservices/ for a quote.
